I watched Prince perform "Purple Rain" in the rain at the Superbowl halftime show in 2007 and like many of you, I wondered, were there other times Prince performed "Purple Rain" and he caused it to rain on that day in that location and in what amounts? So I ran a report.
572 tour dates from Songkick and live US performances from 1983 to 2016 of "Purple Rain" provided by the Setlist.fm API were analyzed against rainfall data from the Dark Sky Forecast API. Daily precipitation was calculated by adding up the precipitation intensity values from each data point in the hourly block.
